Democrats target Biden-district Republicans as impeachment efforts sputter

EXCLUSIVE — Vulnerable House Republicans are coming under attack by Democratic groups for their continued support of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden despite the investigation so far failing to uncover definitive evidence of any wrongdoing.

The Democratic-aligned Congressional Integrity Project released a new ad campaign on Tuesday targeting GOP lawmakers representing districts won by Biden in 2020, urging Republicans to drop the inquiry and instead focus on advancing bipartisan legislation to secure the border. The ads are set to broadcast in 17 districts across eight states as part of a larger seven-figure campaign criticizing Republicans and their impeachment efforts.

“Rather than addressing issues that make Americans’ lives better, MAGA Republicans are pursuing a baseless impeachment inquiry at Trump’s direction,” Kyle Herrig, executive director of Congressional Integrity Project, said in a statement. “The Biden 17 greenlit this baseless impeachment inquiry instead of addressing the issues of their constituents. We are calling on the Biden 17 to stand on the side of their constituents and end this political stunt.”

The ads are the latest release in the group’s monthslong campaign, attacking the lawmakers for “ignoring critical priorities” and instead focusing on “bogus investigations.”

The campaign not only criticizes Republicans for the Biden inquiry, but it also targets Republicans over their push to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as well as their objection to the proposed Senate bill pairing border security with foreign aid to Ukraine.

“Republicans in Washington are at it again,” the narrator says in the ad, which was first shared with the Washington Examiner. “Instead of delivering real solutions, they’re obsessed with shameless stunts and partisan distractions. … [They] voted for a bogus impeachment inquiry but [refuse] to lift a finger to get the bipartisan border bill to the floor or pass legislation to lower drug prices for families.”

The ad campaign comes as the investigation into Biden reaches a make-or-break moment, as some lawmakers have grown weary of the monthslong investigation that has failed to uncover evidence of wrongdoing by the president. Since then, some GOP members have raised questions about whether the inquiry will even lead to a vote for impeachment or if such a measure would even pass the lower chamber.

The ads will target 17 Republicans running in Biden-won districts, including Reps. Don Bacon (R-NE), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR), Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY), John Duarte (R-CA), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Mike Garcia (R-CA), Tom Kean, Jr. (R-NJ), Jen Kiggans (R-VA), Young Kim (R-CA), Nick LaLota (R-NY), Mike Lawler (R-NY), Marc Molinaro (R-NY), David Schweikert (R-AZ), Michelle Steel (R-CA), David Valadao (R-CA), and Brandon Williams (R-NY).
